Marv’s Meditations

Monday, Nov. 19, 2018 – Series: God’s Love, #3 of 3

Scripture: Genesis 1:27; 2:18; 3:9

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them … But the LORD called to the man, ‘Where are you?'” (NIV)

In this series, we have covered that God is love and we named some attributes of God’s love. This 3rd meditation in a series of three is on why God loves his creation, human beings in specific. I can say that God loves you all day, but until I give you a reason why God loves you, you will question His love. That said, here are a few observations from the perspective of why God loves you, bulleted:

  • We are created in the very likeness of God
  • God wants to connect with His beloved creation

Let’s apply these observations one at a time.

Created in God’s Likeness

On the sixth day of creation, God decided to do something that was different. He wanted to create someone who had the ability to love Him and have a personal relationship with Him. On that sixth day, man was created after the very image of God. Now we know God is a Spirit and has no image literally, so we can perceive that He was talking about creating someone after his attributes of the capabilities to love and have knowledge and wisdom. We are created by His breath which was breathed from God into our being. Of all the creatures created, mankind became the only one created with a living soul. We are loved because He made us special with the capability to love Him back and to love others.

Created for a Special Relationship

God had a special relationship with Adam. Among making Adam ruler of the animals and protector of His earth, God came down and had company with us literally. He gave Adam free will so that Adam could be his own being with the decision to show God love by following him, or to show his own pride by serving himself. This decision we greatly failed. God gave us a Redeemer, another showing of His great love toward us that would redeem us from our bad decision. So why does God love you so much? Because He wants you to talk with Him and tell Him how you feel personally. He wants a personal walk with you. We should showcase our love back to Him. Apply these meditations to the heart.

Let us pray.

Heavenly Father, we again come to you with a question. Why do you love us? Lord we realize that you want to know us and walk with us. We understand that you created us for fellowship with you. God may we please you in this and give our hearts over to you so that we can walk with you in Jesus name, Amen!
