Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. – Charles R. Swindoll
Life! It’s rough. It’s hard! It’s great! I have wondered what it would be like if I weren’t born? I know I’m not the only one who has dreamt this up. If I weren’t born then I sure could’ve missed all the heartache I’ve had. If I weren’t born I wouldn’t have to forego my bad back every morning! If I weren’t born, then I wouldn’t have to die! If I weren’t born, well, I wouldn’t be alive! How horrible is that last thought? If I weren’t born, I wouldn’t be alive! Just straight terrible! I can deal with the first three statements but that forth one, whoo! I can’t fathom not being alive. That’s all I know is life. That’s all you know. Why is it that we make it so hard? Why do we take it so seriously?
If Chuck Swindoll is right in his calculations then life is pretty much what we make of it. The key word here is make. It takes effort to live a happy life. It’s work to have to look at everything so positive. It’s easy to become a victim of depression when we don’t want to work at life. That neighbor of yours will not stop throwing his grass on your property. Which is harder? To harbor anger or laugh it off and forgive him for the umpteenth time? That’s what I’m talking about when I say putting effort into making a happy life. God doesn’t want us to live as though we hated life or anybody in it. He wants us to be victors over life. Not life only, but death!
So how do we make a good life? First, I firmly believe it takes knowing the forgiving and loving God of the Bible. The only way that I’ve come to know Him is through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. I would’ve never known him otherwise. Knowing the true, real, loving and compassionate God is the foundational stone for a happy life. So what’s next?
Let God work in your life! Just as sure as you got to turn all of your burdens over to Him is the same surety he will take them. To turn your burdens over to God will take a huge weight off of you and you will breathe without effort for the first time in life. Have you ever heard that said? Turn it over to God? What does that entail? It means, STOP WORRYING and have faith God will work your problem out. If we can do this, oh how much better we would be at being happy in life.
Thirdly, don’t take everything so seriously. It’s life and nobody has got out alive yet, except Him who gave us life. He promises that by faith you’ll never taste death but pass from death to life. Isn’t that great news?. Encourage each other with this and all of God’s promises. Hold God accountable for His promises. I’m sure He won’t mind being that if he promised it, it will happen for sure anyway. That just seems like having faith to me.
In conclusion, I’m a firm believer in the phrase, “Life is what YOU make of it”. You have to make it happy. They say all habits can be made or lost in 28 days. If that’s the case, live the next four weeks forcing happiness to come of every situation, forcing something to be positive even though it seems otherwise, and giving everything that worries you to Him who can bear it. See if life doesn’t change. Look then and see if you are not far happier than before.
