So it seems I am diabetic. I suppose the ignorance of my youth has caught up to me or the genetics of my family. Probably both. This caused me to take a good look at myself.
My hair is thinning; my eyes are fading. My ears already at a loss because of the sounds of the Marines. My legs are weak, my knuckles are swollen. I am a middle aged man. I have lost the power of my youth! These thoughts try to open the flood gates of depression and anxiety upon me.
Like most times, I began to attempt to sooth myself with the scriptures. I wanted to find comfort in my loss of my youth power. In the book of Acts, I came across Jesus’s last words before heascended away to heaven. Jesus said to His disciples,
“It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:7, 8).
I really began to meditate upon these verses. I already knew that the times and dates of all things were in the Father’s hands. Therefore, the date of my death is known to God, but will always remain a mystery to me. But Jesus talked of another power. A power different from that of youth. A power that grows stronger and stronger. The power of the Holy Spirit!
Now this Holy Spirit is in God’s divine nature as the third person. He has shown His great power. In the days of creation, He was there. In the mouth of the prophets, He was there. In all biblical visions and dreams, He was there. In all miracles of the apostles, He was there. In fact, He raised Jesus Christ from the dead (Rom 8:11).
This power came to me when I first believed. In my thoughts I had left this power behind me. Why was I thinking upon the highlights of my youth, the physical power, and leaving my spiritual power untapped? I am human, and I am sentenced to death once, but I will be raised by this power inside me just as Jesus was.
Do you feel the same as I did? Do you realize God is in you if you believe? Would you like to know Jesus? Because:
“All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,…” (1 Pet 1:24)
